Empyrean

What if we made a nextgen scifi game 🎮 that treats space not like a neon-lit action park but as the vast, terrifying, mind-blowing place it is? That’s how Empyrean was born—a hard sciencefiction adventure, blending cinematic storytelling, physics-driven gameplay, and a coming-of-age journey unlike anything else. 🚀

Co-created by Sabrina Calvo, Scott Turner Schofield, and myself (lucky me! 💙), Empyrean follows Jay, a scientist aboard the research vessel Kemal, investigating a colossal alien cargo ship hurtling toward a dying star.

Then, reality fractures. ⛓️‍💥

Gravity collapses. ☄️

Time distorts. ⌛

Jay wakes up alone in a universe that isn’t quite right—their crew is gone, the ship missing, and the only clue is a faint resonance echoing across space.

This game is about identity, memory, and the weight of discovery. As Jay, players will explore, adapt, and shape entire civilizations—including the Epochians, an alien race that stores its history in soundwaves. Every choice alters the story, reshaping alliances, technology, and the fate of entire species. 💫

Designed for next-gen gaming, Empyrean features:

No HUD, no clutter – Just pure immersion.

Non-lethal, intelligence-driven gameplay – Solve problems with diplomacy, not weapons.

Physics-based traversal – Gravity, inertia, and space travel that feels real.

✅ A narrative that adapts to you – Your choices echo across time.

At its heart, Empyrean is a coming-of-age story, not just for Jay, but for entire civilizations. Jay’s gender transition is woven into the narrative, shaping their journey in personal, not performative ways. The game explores how we grow, change, and find belonging in a universe we never expected. 🤯

This is more than a game—it’s an experience that lingers. It’s cinematic sci-fi at its most ambitious, a story that will make you laugh, question, and maybe panic when you realize space is way too quiet. 🤫

🪐 The echoes of the past are calling.

Do you dare answer?

Empyrean received support in writing from the CNC (France) 🫶🏼 in 2024. The project is under development—the deck and script should be available in May 2025 🤞🏼
